About Us

Orion Seva is the Indian branch of “The Sons of Divine Providence,” a Roman Catholic religious congregation founded by Saint Luigi Orione (June 23, 1872–March 12, 1940). He was born in Piedmont region of Italy and was ordained priest in April 1895. Pope John Paul II beatified him in 1980, and nearly 24 years later, canonized him in 2004.

Saint Luigi Orione began his work with orphans and street children in the city of Tortona in northwest Italy while still a student. He founded The Little Work of Divine Providence, a religious family that includes the Sons of Divine Providence, a male congregation formed by Priests, Brothers and Hermits, and the Little Missionary Sisters of Charity, a female congregation formed by Sisters of apostolic life, contemplative Sisters, and blind Sisters dedicated to the adoration of the blessed Sacrament. Two secular institutes and a few other lay movements also belong to the family. He was a man of enormous energy and enterprise, and with his followers, established services for the care of the elderly and individuals with a disability or economic disadvantages all over Italy, as well as in Poland, Brazil, Argentina, and Palestine.

Saint Luigi Orione’s indomitable, caring spirit inspires his congregation to continue his work worldwide. His apostolate embraces different types of work, such as establishing schools, hostels for workers, homes for individuals with physical disabilities, the elderly, individuals with health issues, individuals who are blind, and missions and pastoral apostolates in parishes. Today, more than 1,000 priests and brothers of the Congregation work in 36 countries to serve more than 200,000 people through healthcare and social care projects.
