CHILDREN FROM SOPHIA HIGH SCHOOL, BANGALORE AT DAYANIKETAN

“No one has ever become poor by giving " - Anne Frank. The Class Teacher Shushma narrates her experience on the visit. On 28th January, 2023, The children from Sophia High School, Bangalore, had an outreach program in the Day Care Center for the Intellectually disabled at Orione Seva. 28th Jan 2023 marked a significant day in the calendar of Sophia High School as std 7 & 8 set out on their class Outreach Programme. Class 7D under the able guidance of the principal Sr. Alpana and class teacher Ms. Maria Shushma set out to Orione Seva, A home for the especially abled run by the Sons of Divine Providence. This 2 hrs outreach was an enriching experience for 50 students and 2 teachers. The Interaction with the inmates gave the students an insight on how the life outside their world looks like. Some students shared their thoughts saying "the inmates are so talented " while one student says" Orione Seva adds colours to the life of the inmates here"

Over all Orione Seva under the leadership of Fr. Arul welcomed Sophia students with warmth and love, Fr. Arul's welcome address enabled the students to understand Orione Seva mission better. The handmade items on sale were well patronized by the students.

The highlight of the day was the enthralling dance performance by the inmates followed by a small programme given by the students of Sophia high school.

In the end a joint dance performance by both the inmates and students captivated our hearts. As a token of love and appreciation Orione seva bid bye to Sophia with juice and fresh cakes.

The Program Coordinator of the Day Care Center Br. Bala Revanth said: “These children have been very attentive to the needs of the people around them. Infact, a few months ago the same school children had donated groceries for the Children in Daya Niketan. Their generosity didn’t stop only in giving items for the center rather it extended in planning an outreach program by visiting the children in the center and entertaining them with cultural and fun activities. Even this time groceries, cloths, medicine, stationery etc were brought to our children. “What a lovely day we are having today” says one of the inmates in excitement. The inmate children were super happy at the visit of these children. Anyone who passes through our Day Care Center will have enough memories to cherish in his/her life.”

At the end of their visit Fr. Arul thanked all and left them with a short message. He specially thanked the Principal Sr. Mary Alpana SND of the School, the class teacher Maria Shushma and Sports teacher Mahesha for having planned an outreach program at our center. He also thanked the children for their presence and He spoke on how our whole self (soul, mind and body) is satisfied when a person contributes to another person who is in need. At the end he asked the children to spread this charitable work among their friends and neighborhood.
